SETTLEMENT.
A settlement is a place where people have put up their homes.
The place where our homes are is a COMMUNITY.
TYPES OF SETTLEMENT.
1. Linear settlement: This is a type of settlement in which the buildings are arranged
in a line form.
2. Nucleated settlement: This is a settlement in which the houses are closely packed near one another forming a cluster.
3. Dispersed/Scattered settlement: This is a type of settlement in which the buildings are far apart from one another or widely scattered.
CHARACTERISTICS OF LINEAR SETTLEMENT
- It is found along a line.
- The houses are close together.
- It covers a large area.
CHARACTERISTICS OF NUCLEATED SETTLEMENT.
- The settlement is found in a considerable land size.
- There is a center of control in this settlement.
- There are many houses around the center.
CHARACTERISTICS OF DISPERSED OR SCATTERED SETTLEMENT.
- This settlement is spread over a large land size.
- Houses are far apart.
- This is common in hilly areas.
