SUB-STRAND 4:POPULATION AND SETTLEMENT
DEFINITIONS OF RURAL AND URBAN SETTLEMENTS
Rural settlements include settlements/populated areas whose inhabitants are engaged primarily in agriculture, forestry or hunting.

Features Of Rural settlements
I.There is small population.
ii.There are few buildings.
iii.Rural people have close contact with nature, as most of their daily activities revolve around the natural environment.
iv.Agriculture is the main occupation.
v.People living far apart.etc.

Urban Settlements
These are densely populated settlements,which can take the form of a town, city, metropolis etc.
Features Of Urban Settlements
I.Population is large.
ii.Buildings are many.
iii.Major occupations are industrial, administrative and professional in nature.
iv.There is rapid social and cultural change.
v.There is individualism (People attach supreme importance to their own welfare and happiness). etc.

iv.fisheries and aquaculture etc.

SUB-STRAND 1:BEING A CITIZEN

A citizen is a member of a country. All members of Ghana are called Ghanaians.We have two types of citizens: Active Citizens and Passive Citizens.
An active citizen is an individual who contributes to the wellbeing of his or her community. While a passive citizen is an individual who does not contribute to the wellbeing of his or her community.

ATTITUDES NEEDED FOR EFFECTIVE CITIZENSHIP
i.Teamwork
ii.Tolerance
iii.Collaboration
iv.Dialogue
v.Dedication
vi Compromise
vii.Patriotism etc

ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOURS THAT SHOW THAT A PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE
I.Obedience to rules and regulations.
ii.Helping needy people.
iii.Taking initiatives.
iv.Accepting responsibilities (performing assigned duties).
v.Being honest.
vi.Showing respect. etc.

IMPORTANCE OF BEING A RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN IN THE NATION

SUB-STRAND 1:BEING A CITIZEN
DEFINITION OF TERMS

(i)Ethnic Diversity: Ethnic Diversity refers to the presence of different ethnic backgrounds or identities.
Or
Ethnic Diversity refers to many different ethnic groups living at a particular place.

(ii)National Development: National Development refers to the general improvement in the quality of life of the people in a country.

(iii)Cultural Diversity: Cultural Diversity refers to the quality of different cultures,whereby there is the respect for each other's differences.

WAYS BY WHICH ETHNIC DIVERSITY PROMOTE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
i)Ethnic diversity fosters a sense of national identity, belonging and unity, which is important for nation building.
ii)Ethnic diversity promotes inter-group harmony, which reduces discrimination.
iii)Ethnic diversity advances the protection of human rights.
iv) It fosters the respect for the rule of law. etc.

SUB-STRAND 2: AUTHORITY AND POWER
DEFINITION OF TERMS
(i)AUTHORITY- Authority is the legal and formal right to give orders and commands,and take decisions.

ii)POWER- Power is the ability of an individual to influence others and control their actions.

SOME RULES AND REGULATIONS CHILDREN ARE EXPECTED TO FOLLOW AT HOME
i)Obey parents and elderly siblings.
ii)Run errands for parents promptly without complaining.
iii)Avoid stealing.
iv)Be honest and avoid cheating younger siblings.
v)Work hard to complete assigned house chores.
vi)Begin your statements with "please" and say "thank you" after receiving gifts. etc.

IMPORTANCE OF OBEYING RULES AND REGULATIONS AT HOME
i)They help develop self-discipline.
Ii)They teach order and responsibility.
iii)They keep every body safe.
iv)They make every body feel comfortable.
v)They develop a better society.

They came to spread the Christian faith. The Portuguese were the first European nation to come to Gold Coast in the year 1471. The Portuguese named the place Gold Coast because of the Gold deposits found on the land. After the European missionaries had contacts with the coastal people, they decide to enter the interior parts of Ghana. In order to communicate better with the local people, they decided to established schools. Most of the local people did not understand the ir language in order to accept  the massage. After  signing of the Bond of 1844  the local people  demanded that the British help with social development of the Gold Coast. The British undertook various social development within the Gold Coast.
