WEEK 8 NOTES
MATHEMATICS
    Strand 1: Number
Sub-Strand 2:Whole Numbers Operations
            Division
Division as Equal Sharing
In this section, we shall form sets of equal objects from a given quantity.
Example: 3 girls shared 6 oranges equally among themselves.
The learner take the oranges 1 at a time until all the 6 pencils are finished.
           ●●                ●●              ●●
                 6    ÷  3 = 2
Count how many oranges each girl received
Each girl received 2 oranges.
Division as repeated subtraction
Put 12 pencils on a table
Make equal groups where each groups contain 3 pencils
Count the number of equal groups formed.
               ///           ///            ///           ///
                12               ÷         3         =   4
             4 equal groups were formed
This could be solved by repeatedly subtracting.
           12-3= 9 ,  9-3 =6, 6-3 = 3,  3-3 = 0.
           12-3-3-3-3=0.
         Therefore 12÷3=4
Division as Inverse Multiplication
15             ÷        3 =  what?
              Means
3        ×        What?    = 15
