EDITING AND FORMATTING WORD PROCESSING DOCUMENT
A Word Processor is an application that is used to create, edit,
print and save documents.
Word Processing is the process of creating, editing, printing and saving documents.
Examples of Word processors are;
AbiWord, Microsoft Word, WordPad, Pages, WordPerfect
Techniques in;
EDITING
Ø Selecting text
Ø Copy, cut and paste selected text
Ø Resaving an edited document
FORMATTING
Ø Applying bullets to text
Ø Applying numbering to text
Ø Changing bullets and numbering style
Ø Aligning text

A. SELECTING TEXT
Selecting text in Microsoft Word is also known as highlighting. Before deleting, formatting or editing text, it must be selected. This requires some basic mouse skills such as clicking and dragging.
Text can be selected by clicking and dragging the I-beam pointer across the text to highlight it.

COPY OR CUT AND PASTE
After you have selected the text you want, there are many things you can do. You might choose to delete, copy the text, cut the text or paste it.
To cut and paste text;
1. Select the text you want to cut;
2. Click on the cut button on the standard toolbar;
3. Place the insertion point at the location you want to paste;
4. Click on the paste command on the standard toolbar.
To copy and paste text;
1. Select the text you want to copy;
2. Click on the copy button on the standard toolbar;
3. Place the insertion point at the location you want to paste;
4. Click on the paste command on the standard toolbar.

THE USE OF THE DRAWING TOOLBAR IN
WORD PROCESSING
Drawing toolbar is a GUI widget on
which tools that can be used to draw
in Ms. Word are found.
You can add a variety of shapes to
your document including shapes such
as; Block arrows, Callouts, Squares, Stars,
Flowchart and more.
The drawing toolbar also helps in filling the colour in a shape.

The “autoshapes” provides different shapes that can be drawn

Ms. Word document.
You can draw these shapes by choosing the category under

your shape falls.
The categories are as follows;
Ø Lines: Choose this category to draw different style of lines and arrows.
Ø Connectors: Choose this category to draw connectors for connecting two or more shapes.
Ø Basic shapes: Choose this category to draw the different shapes such as Oval, Rectangle, Hexagon, Octagon and Sun.
Ø Block arrow: Use this category to draw Block and thick arrows.

The fill colour tool on the drawing
toolbar is used to change the
background colour of the shape you have drawn.

change the colour of a line, arrow
or the outline of a shape drawn.

CLIP ART
The Clip Art is used to add art designs
either from clip organizers or

This allows you to draw rectangles
and squares in Ms. Word.

The oval tool is used to draw

This tool is used to type text in a
box. This tool is mostly used when labeling a drawing.

This tool is used to insert pictures
into the document from other

DRAWING BASIC SHAPES
To draw any shape or object in Ms. Word:
(i)
Click
on the drawing tool on the drawing toolbar;

Click,
hold and draw to form your shape.
To Move, Resize and Rotate a drawn shape:

Position the mouse pointer over the
shape so that it changes to a 4-way arrow;
(ii) Click,
hold and drag to the desired location.
RESIZE
Click, hold and drag the resize
handles until you reach the desired size of
your shape.

GROUPING SHAPES IN WORD DOCUMENT
Grouping in Ms. Word document is when
different shapes are combined
to form one shape.

(iii) From the pop-up menu, point to
grouping;
